We know Ezekiel Elliott won’t be playing as his holdout from Dallas’ training camp continues. And we know Week 1 of the NFL preseason schedule is hardly grounds for legitimate intrigue and/or entertainment value in terms of a TV product for the league. But this is Cowboys vs. 49ers.
Even if it’s based solely on nostalgia, this matchup will garner at least some level of national attention every time. That’s why NFL Network is the TV channel on which Cowboys vs. 49ers can be watched. This is one of the few games on the NFL preseason schedule that warrants a national TV presentation.

Even though it’s just the preseason opener for both teams, Sporting News is curious to see how the Cowboys look in their new offense under first-year coordinator Kellen Moore. His impact is one of the reasons SN predicted a Dallas Super Bowl championship at the end of the 2019 season.
As for the 49ers, the 2019 season figures to be an effort in redemption after a year lost to injuries. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and running back Jerick McKinnon are back as centerpieces of San Francisco’s offense, and the reset button on the expectations that were tied to this team a year ago has been pressed.
